The two artists, who began cooperating with each other in 2013, will be presenting a never before viewed installation for voice and cinematics. Soundings revolves around the concept of distance based on visual and sound elements. The term has a double meaning: in the plural, it indicates “depth” or “sea depth”, while in the singular, it is intended as “sound box” or “sonority”. The installation is centred around the song entitled Cardiologia, by Francesco De Gregori – one of the leading artists on the Italian musical scene, which has been revisited and re-written in keeping with Lucia Romualdi’s score based upon tide charts. In this installation, space becomes a sound box which harmoniously resonates the sounds of the piano, the rhythmic mechanics of the projectors, the scans of the scores, the chords of the song and the tides of the world. Conceptually, the dual structure of Soundings reflects a dialogue between the artists and has been realized with mechanics, projections, films and audio tracks coordinated by a control unit which triggers the movement of scenic sea beds in continuous motion.
